About Us

Our Story

Independent Living Agency is a registered charity and non-profit making organization. We are a service user led organisation established in 1996 by a group of people with impairments with the purpose to support people receiving Direct Payments. We initially received funding to support only four people in Barking and Dagenham and now we support over 1500 people in the local area.

Our Choices Project started in 1998 with the purpose of supporting people to live independent lives in their own homes which later evolved on to our Floating Support team.
Over the years we have noticed a need in certain areas which included accessible transport scheme and our equipment supply service. We now run a successful cleaning and blitz cleaning service. In 2013 we moved into our present location from which the whole of our services are run.

Our Mission

The Independent Living Agency (ILA) will assist disabled people who chose to employ their own personal assistance. The ILA will provide information, training and support which will unable them to have physical and psychological independence in order to live in the community with more choice and control over their lives. This choice and control is fundamental to independent living and the basis in which ILA is formed. To support disabled people to live in the community and exercise choice and control in their lives.
